Canon Peter Calvert

Canon Peter Calvert – Is the vicar of St Anne’s and works as a team vicar within the Cartmel Team Peninsular Ministry of which Haverthwatie is part. Peter also looks after St Mary’s Staveley and St Peter’s Finsthwaite. Peter joined us back in 2007 from Todmorden where he had been the vicar for some 25 years.

St Anne’s has been at the heart of the community for almost 200 years. Like most county churches it suffers from dwindling congregations as local people have to move away for affordable housing and jobs. Peter Calvert and the Parochial Church Council through the Churchwardens, will be happy to discuss any of your requirements Weddings, Christenings, Funerals and other events including memorial services. Peter and the church council encourage the use of the church for village events so if you have something you would like to organise and think the church could help you as a venue, give The Vicar a call.

We are keen to create or help with events for the young, the old and of course, those of us who are in between who are often forgotten when it comes to community events.

In the last five years we have formed: -

• A Scout Group incorporating…
• A Beavers Colony (6 to 8 years)
• A Cub Pack (8 to 10 years)
• A Scout Troop (10 – 16 years)

(Beavers and Cubs meet on Wednesday’s – Beavers 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm followed by the Cubs at 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm; The Scouts meet on Tuesdays at 6:30 – all now meet at the St George’s Playing Fields in Haverthwaite)

A Music Group at St Anne’s

The music group was formed almost 3 years ago and is for all ages from 8 year upwards. Juniors usually meet for rehearsals in the church at 7:00 pm on Tuesday evenings and the adults join the Juniors at 7:30 pm. Juniors normally finish between 8:00 and 8:30 and if parents consider the child to be old enough they can remain and rehearse with the adults providing proper arrangement have been made for transport home – the adults rehearsals are usually finished by 9:30 pm.
